Let’s make a heart pizza!
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a mixing bowl or a large bowl if you don’t have a mixer, pour in the warm water and then add the sugar.
- Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water-sugar mixture and let it rest for 5-7 minutes. You’ll notice it becoming frothy and activated.
- While you wait for the active yeast mixture, create the heart-shaped grape tomatoes by cutting just a little bit from the bottom at an angle, see images below. Also, can slice your other ingredients.
- Stir in the olive oil and salt.
- Begin mixing and gradually add the all-purpose flour, allowing it to incorporate well until a cohesive dough ball forms.
- On a clean surface, lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough to your desired thickness and shape, then with your hands form the heart shape.
- Bake the dough for 5-7 minutes before adding the toppings. This will give the crust a slightly toasted base.
- Spread the tomato sauce on the dough, sprinkle some extra salt, garlic powder, oregano, and pepper.
- Then add the preferred ingredients, except the cheese, heart-shaped tomatoes, and basil, that way you showcase the tomato hearts better.

Heart Shaped Tomatoes
I’ll be honest, it took me a few tries to nail down those adorable grape tomato hearts. But once I got the hang of it, they turned out really cute. And the extra bits of tomatoes that didn’t quite make the heart cut? No waste here—I just tossed them into the tomato sauce for the first layer of the pizza.
The grape tomato hearts are something I will be doing with other recipes for Valentine’s day, I can imagine throwing them on cutely layered salads and appetizers.
Adding fresh basil to this pizza brought in an additional layer of flavor that truly elevates the taste. It’s worth considering, especially since this pizza is vegetarian.
While I’ve seen adorable pepperoni hearts on other heart-shaped pizza references, I opted for a healthier twist. The vibrant flavor of the tomatoes on the pizza is something that my husband and I love in a pizza, so I’ll totally be creatin these heart pizzas for my family as soon as February 1st.
Whether it’s the simplicity of a romantic dinner, the joy of sharing with friends, or the delight of creating a special treat for your little ones, this DIY heart pizza has the versatility to fit various celebrations and possibly carve out a place in your annual Valentine’s Day rituals.
