This chicken appetizer is among our top picks for savory puff pastry appetizers. The best thing about it is that we can whip it up with either fresh or canned ingredients, perfect for those last-minute get-togethers.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 Cups Chicken, shredded (Canned okay)
- 2 Dough sheets
- 1 Cup Peas and carrots (Canned)
- 1/2 Cup Sour cream
- 1 Cup Corn (Canned okay)
- 1/4 Cup Scallions, chopped
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Pepper
- 1/2 Tsp Garlic powder
- 1 Egg for egg wash
- Sliced almonds for sprinkling
- Rosemary leaves for decor (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (200°C), and make sure you don’t make our mistake but get the dough sheets, instead of the crescent rolls ha, it was actually fine, we just had to push the triangles together a little. In the end, this appetizer still looked and tasted amazing.
Step 2.
In a big bowl, add the shredded chicken, which by the way, we would have cooked ourselves instead of buying canned, but that’s the beauty of this appetizer, you can either make it with a lot of fresh ingredients or have the canned ingredients in your pantry for a last minute life saver appetizer. We just love the beauty of that, when receiving unexpected guests. Anyways, in the same bowl, add the peas, carrots, sour cream, corn, scallions, salt, garlic powder, and pepper.
Step 3.
On a large baking sheet, either greased or with parchment paper, spread out two sheets of dough and use scissors or a knife to cut strips, leaving a rectangle in the middle, like in the image.
Step 4.
Place the chicken mixture in the rectangle space of the dough, then fold the strips on the sides, crossing them over, to cover the chicken mixture.
Step 5.
Brush with egg wash or preferred milk, and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until it’s golden brown.
Step 6.
Sprinkle almond slices on top and decorate with rosemary leaves around the puff pastry appetizer. Then slice it like a cake and enjoy it warm if desired.
